Megan & Chance’s Poplar Grove Wedding

  • Let’s talk about your vendors! Tell us what your thoughts are about their services.

We loved working with Poplar Grove Plantation. Chrissy Fennell, their wedding coordinator, was not only a blast to work with, but so accommodating! She gave great suggestions on how to decorate and assisted my family all day on my wedding day! Colleen from Beanie’s Bake Shop made our wedding cake. It was exactly what we wanted, tasted amazing, and a very stress free ordering process. Beautiful Bouquets by Betty did our flowers and she was outstanding. Everything looked gorgeous and was in budget. She recreated my mom’s Bible Bouquet from her wedding in 1985. That was so special to me that she was able to do that. A Thyme Savor did our catering. They also understood we were on a tight budget and were very accommodating. Everyone raved about their food after the wedding! Silverceiling Beauty did me and the bridal party’s makeup! Kelly and Giana are the best of the best in Wilmington in my opinion. I had a wonderful trial run with them a few weeks before and then the day of the wedding I decided I wanted completely different makeup than what we had tried before. Kelly completely supported my new idea and made it look 100x better than I could have imagined. Everyone loved their hair and makeup. It also held up until the next day for the bridal party! Both Giana and Kelly made everyone feel so special, especially my junior bridesmaid Grace. They gave her a hairstyle she could wear to school the next day and answered any questions she had while getting her hair/makeup done. It was so sweet. Party Suppliers set up our ceremony chairs and not only picked them up afterwards, but also picked up the tables and chairs Chance’s family rented for the rehearsal dinner. Ron Lewis was our pastor and he was so kind. His wife did an amazing job of keeping up with us throughout our engagement and made sure all the bible verses we liked would be included in the ceremony. On the day of Pastor Ron did one of the sweetest things for us… we did not order the sound system due to our budget, but he brought it anyways as a gift to us. So not only was everyone able to hear the ceremony, they were also able to hear our processional music. This isn’t exactly a vendor, but I got my dress and veil from Coastal Knot Bridal in Wilmington. They were amazing. My dress and custom veil arrived only a month after ordering it! Every time I came to try it on they steamed it for me and their seamstress altered it very quickly and beautifully. I couldn’t have been happier with their team!

  • We would also love to know your thoughts on our service.

We have been very happy with y’alls service!!! Kelly you have been so amazing. From helping us with our wedding timeline to making so many special moments on our big day. You have been great and we are so glad we chose you to do our photos!

  • Did you DIY anything? Tell us about all your special touches of your wedding day.

My favorite special touch from the wedding day was our military table which included photos of all our friends and family that are currently or had been in the military. We gathered and asked friends to bring photos to contribute and made sure there were name cards in front of each photo of rankings and names. My family and close friends were a huge help the day of. All of our centerpieces were made from trimmed 25 foot garland ordered online from Sams Club, then we bought tall candles from the local Dollar Tree, and various small votives from Habitat for Humanity. I didn’t even see the reception space until our grand entrance and I was amazed with how it looked! DIY’ing was definitely worth it. Also me and my maid of honor, Mackenzie, spent countless hours making personalized koozies as favors and bible verse signs that were featured around the reception space.

  • Now that your day is over are there any other thoughts or comments you would like to share? We would love to hear about your wedding day in your own words. Bonus: We would love to hear about your Groom’s favorite moments!

When Chance proposed in July of this year I was scared. He had orders from the Coast Guard to be in Mobile, Alabama by October 30th and wanted me to move with him. I knew I only had two options: go as his fiance (which wasn’t a option considering my beliefs), do a courthouse wedding, or try to plan my dream wedding by early October. It took a lot of trust in God and work to plan our wedding in only a little over 2 months, but it really turned out to be our dream day. Everything fell perfectly into place: I was able to get my dream dress with a month to spare, I even had a custom made veil, my bridesmaids were all able to easily find dresses that matched, our favorite venue, photographer, makeup artist, baker, were all available on the date we chose. It was a dream that I didn’t think was possible to fufill in such a small amount of time. Then on the day of almost all of our family was able to attend, the weather was beautiful, the decor was everything I had ever imagined. My favorite moment was when I finally got to see Chance and talk to him after the ceremony. I was so happy we chose to wait until the ceremony to see each other because it made that moment that much more special. Another favorite moment of mine was waiting to walk down the aisle. Sitting in the bridal suite with my family and best friends and watching all the guests arrive was so special. It isn’t too often I get to spend time with all my favorite people at once. Chance says his favorite moments from the wedding was when he first saw me and getting to kiss me when we were taking photos. A few others was watching me twirl in my dress while we were taking photos, cutting the cake together, and when he got to carry me through the bubbles to his truck.

  • Is there anything you are so glad you did or any advice to future brides?

Don’t let anyone or any website ever make you feel like you need more time or more money to have a dream wedding! When I began planning I felt hopeless. Every blog, website, or professional I spoke to assured me that there was no way a good wedding could happen in less than a 6 month time frame with an $11,000 budget. It isn’t easy, it takes time, a lot of organization, string pulling, and budgeting, but it is possible! Also spend the most you can on your wedding dress, nails, hair/makeup, and photographer! My total look wasn’t cheap, but it was well worth it. You only have a day like this once so treat yourself like a queen! You worry about everything less when you feel comfortable and look like how you dreamed. Wedding photographs will be passed down for generations so paying extra for professionals you can trust is well worth the money! You can’t go back to your wedding day, but you can reminisce on the photographs! Whenever you become overwhelmed remember what my husband and mom told me constantly during the planning process: “All the little details don’t matter. What matters is that you are making a promise in front of God to your best friend with your family and favorite people surrounding you with their love.”
